Cool Blues on a hot day.
Several thousand people chose to sit or stand in the sun to listen to some blues legends and a few newcomers on a day when most preferred to remain in the shade. Late comers were treated to a decent background set by Colin James as they filed in. John Mayall delivered an outstanding show of minimalist Blues, accompanied only by him on keyboard and two excellent backup musicians. Charlie Musselwhite, known as one of the best mouth harp players in the game, showcased his talent with a great group of musicians. David Lucas, in his usual irreverent style, playfully complained about the audience while rubbing his guitar strings on his shirt. Although his backups appeared somewhat indifferent to his performance, the introduction of Quinn Sullivan to join him on stage brought to mind the passing of the torch, much like when B.B. King introduced a young Joe Bonamassa to Blues fans. Quinn Sullivan infuses a rock element into his blues, showcasing terrific guitar work. DAMN RIGHT I GOT THE BLUES!
